Buffy, The Girl Who Made Vampires Cool

For those of you who can remember, before “Twilight” and “Diaries of a Vampire”, there was “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. First there was the movie that came out in 1992. It starts out as your average, really bad teenager movie. Buffy, the lead, starts of as a Cheerleader, (yeah, it’s THAT BAD), turned Vampire Slayer. And you thought high school sucked for you, try adding murderous monsters to the mix!
Then it became a TV series, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, who brought some credibility to the role. (The key word in the last sentence is SOME.) Now, I know what you are thinking… Buffy! That is what you name a bimbo, some socialite whose career plan is finding a) a rich, older guy or b) someone who posts nude pictures of herself online. I assume that’s the point! I would not be surprised to find that the original idea for “Buffy” came about because one boring afternoon two guys were smoking weed, for lack of anything better to do. They probably submitted their script more of a joke than anything and by dumb luck, hit the jackpot. Remember when your teacher told you, no idea is too stupid, I guess she was right!
And that my dears, I am sorry to say, was the beginning of the vampire genre.
