Sponsored a Child in Ethiopia - Part I

Lately... I've felt the need to be more of a humanitarian. In the past, I was involved in charitable events and such but more recently, I have been focused on other things like school and work.
My dad suggested I should do something about this. I couldn't agree with him more. I had the urge to do something but I couldn't quite pin point what I wanted to do. I knew for a week or so ago that I wanted to make a small donation to a local Christian missionary that I knew. That was done - but I wanted to do more.
This is when my dad told me how I should sponsor a child - a child that is in real need that can be taken care of with a monthly payment of only $35.00 a month. I went on the Christian Children's Fund of Canada ccfcanada.ca and found that they work with Ethiopia! At this point - I was anxious. I've always had a heart for Ethiopia. (That's a whole other story which I'll write about next time, perhaps). Regardless, in a few easy steps, in less than 3 minutes time, I was able to sponsor a 6 year old boy named Anane who lives with his grandmother.
For $35.00/month, a child's education, health care access, food, and so much more can be taken care of. I can't wait to receive my package in the mail with his pictures and quarterly progress reports. I'm awaiting my first package - hope it arrives sometime within this week. (Will keep you posted.) I'm also excited to write letters to Adnane, send stickers, cards, and other things. I hope to have an active relationship with him. My goal is within five years... Hopefully I can continue supporting Adnane (if I am financially equipped to do so) and go to Ethiopia one day to meet him. This is one big dream I have.
Now, to some, this can financially be a big commitment but there are other ways to get involved as well - just check out their website. There is a whole lot of information there: www.ccfcanada.ca
The moral of the story is..... There are millions of children all around the world who don't have even have clean drinking water. Help make a difference in the world today. On a selfish motive, you'll feel good about yourself but on a worldly perspective, you are making a difference in one child's life that can go a really long way.
