Excersise Mats

bluelady 2008-10-06 06:08:59

An exercise mat can be an integral part of your fitness routine and when shopping for one, you want to make sure you are choosing the right mat. Exercise mats come in all different colours and thicknesses and you should be aware before you shop that there are different mats for different exercises. The different kinds of mats are as follows:-

• Exercise mat or aerobic mat
• Pilates mat
• Gym mat
• Yoga mat

You can buy cheap coloured foam or camping mats from nearly any store. These mats are normally thin and cheap. In theory these are ok and you think you have bought a bargain, but after 30 minutes of laying on it you may wish you had chosen something more comfortable. Many gym and exercise mats are foldaway and come with a carry handle.

When looking for an exercise mat whether it is for yoga/pilates, aerobics or just doing warm up excercises, you should consider the following:-

• A non slip mat- ideal for Pilates, yoga and aerobic exercise. There is nothing worse than slipping when you are trying to stretch and your mat is moving with you.
• Lightweight mats- easier to carry
• Clean-easy, washable, smooth surface Rid-resistant base for stability.
• Thickness of a mat- you want it to be comfortable especially if you are going to be using it for up to an hour.
• What is your budget? Prices of mats range from £3.99 to £25.95
