Charlotte Robinson had everything going for her.... that was until she developed anorexia. Within five months her 'morbid fear' of food and obsession with exercise resulted in her weight plunging by a third. She did however try fighting back, by taking part in a treatment programme when she developed pneumonia and died. She weighed only six stone.
Details emerged at an inquest where the coroner yesterday criticised delays in treatment as Miss Robinson 'literally wasted away'.
The reason for this was the she was given an anti-depressant sertraline, also known as Lustral, which helped her OCD, but the Norwich inquest heard that the drug can cause loss of appetite, which would explain the anorexia she was facing. Miss Robinson was diagnosed with anorexia in May last year as she approached her A-levels. However, shockinly by June, the 5ft 10ins teenager's weight had dropped from nine stone to six-and-a-half. Before her death, she admitted she only had a few sips of soup a day. How awful! It just goes to show you should always read the side effects on your medicines, since they could be causing you the problems and can result in a much happier ending than this tragic one.
