Eco Pretend Warriors Rally At G20 In London

Michael8 2009-04-04 11:44:27

Walking through the rally on Bishopsgate in London felt more like a Grateful Dead concert then a demonstration with purpose.

There was plenty of marijuana, funky clothes, and cheap booze.  Where was the punch?

No, I'm not talking about violence. I'm talking about the real message that should be getting across and gathering media attention. There is an apocalyptic crisis in our climate and the demonstrators were content to just show up and party for a few hours. If thats how they intend to make a difference we haven't much hope.

Lets face it folks, it doesn't matter who is to blame or how we got here. What does matter is that the climate is rapidly changing. Another news flash - the planet doesn't care if the human race survives or not.

I know, it's not cool to be Chicken Little but Simple Simon is worse.

Do the G20 leaders really think a few trillion US Dollars crossed off the accountants ledgers is more important then oceans rising by 5 to 15 feet? One effects our standard of living and social stability. The other impacts our ability to survive as a species... Hmmm, not sure which we should focus on...

What color is the sky in their world? Ours is looking ugly.

It might be too late or maybe not. We have no way to know. What we do know is that if we just cary on as normal and don't react to the clear signs around us then we are doomed to follow the Dodo bird and countless other species as just another simple organism which hadn't evolved enough to recognize its own weakness.

BTW - I know many bankers, eating one could seriously damage your health.
