A 15-year-old is recovering in hospital and is in a stable condition after being stabbed in a school playground.
The schoolboy was flown by air ambulance to hospital after being knifed in the grounds of the school in Greenford at 4.10pm yesterday. He was attacked by another youth shortly after lessons finished at Cardinal Wiseman Roman Catholic School and suffered a punctured lung. A road opposite the school was closed off and police dogs were sent in to find the weapon responsible.
It is thought the victim was challenged by a gang who turned up outside the school at 4:05pm. A parent, who did not want to be named, said: 'He was staggering in the school grounds before he collapsed on the floor. It's terrible, I don't want to think about what is happening at our schools these days.' An arts festival due to be held at the school this evening was cancelled, as the complex was sealed off. A statement on its website said it would be closed all day today, except for year 11 students preparing for their GCSE exams
.
Forensic teams wearing blue suits entered the school on Greenford Road. Nearby Otter Road also remained sealed off. The school is next to Our Lady of the Visitation Church, whose assistant priest Father Seamus Stapleton said: 'We are all shocked by what has happened. We wish him all the best and he and his family are in our prayers.'Police have arrested a 16-year-old in Southall. He is still in custody.
