China Turns To Protectionism

Michael8 2009-06-18 02:15:20

In a bid to stem the downturn in Chinas domestic economy, the Chinese government has quietly circulated a memo which requires all government sourcing to exhaust domestic supplies before speaking with international providers.

This tact is a clear divergence from the overt rhetoric which Beijing has engaged in on the international stage. They have been espousing the need for countries to remain open and not to resort to nationalistic practices in order to improve their own domestic production.

While the rest of the world wants and needs a strong China to balance the US and create greater economic growth, they must remain trustworthy and true to the ideals of open and unrestricted trade between the worlds international players.
